Manjushri card sets & print pre-sale!
Everything you need to know about ordering card sets & prints of my latest completed thangka
This pre-sale has ended, including the discount on a set of cards + a print, but you can now buy both these items and expect them to be shipped within five business days of your order.
Thank you to all the folks who pre-ordered! I was able to contribute $175 to the organization putting on the accessible drag show.
Reading time: About 6 minutes
Hello folks!
In early September I completed a colourful depiction of my thangka drawing of the Bodhisattva Manjushri. From now until the end of the month you can pre-order a set of three 5X7” cards with envelopes and 11X14” prints of this wonderful Bodhisattva.
Pre-sale orders will do two things:
They will help me cover the costs associated with having ones work replicated and available in the world.
They generate extra funds I will be able to put towards community building by helping to fund an accessible drag show and take the financial burden off an organization supporting trans and non-binary folks.
What is available in the pre-sale?
You can get a set of three 5X7” blank cards with envelopes and an artist’s statement for $15CAD.
You can get a signed limited edition 11X14” print on 13pt cardstock with an artist’s statement and practice note for $30CAD.
Or
you can get a set of cards and a print together for a discounted price of $40CAD.
What about shipping?
For Canadian orders, shipping is either free or calculated at a small fee on check-out. There is a flat rate of $14CAD for orders outside of Canada—I cannot make this lower as even this rate often means I can’t cover the cost of shipping Internationally, which varies wildly. I charge a flat International rate to balance out the cost overall.
When will I receive my order?
My aim is to have these printed and shipped out by the end of November, so folks will have them in time for December and anything they may be celebrating at the close of the Gregorian calendar and well in advance for the Lunar Calendar celebrations come February.
Financial Transparency
I have made a commitment to ensure any funds that come from these pieces are used in service of our collective liberation.
Thanks to my current commission, I had the funds to pay for getting the original imaged and framed. As with the pre-sale of the Five Buddha card sets and prints, this pre-sale will help cover the costs of having prints made, which will run between $197.32 and $253.94CAD depending on how many pre-orders I get. The lower end will be for about sixteen card sets and fifty prints, while the higher end will be for thirty card sets and fifty prints. So, if just SIX people buy the combo of a set of cards and a print, ya’ll will have covered all the printing costs. also, if I get enough orders in the next week, I can use a discount code the local printing house sent me before it expires!
Once the production costs are covered, I will use additional funds to make a financial contribution to the production costs of an accessible drag show.
I’ve started to volunteer with an organisation that provides bursaries to trans and non-binary folks in University or College who can’t afford the costs of a name change, which can run from $450 - $600.1
This organization occasionally puts on the only drag shows accessible to wheelchair users, immuno-compromised folks, and folks with sensory sensitives—both as audience members and performers. They are also one of the only shows that consistently has ASL interpreters.
Because of ableism,2 providing accessibility on all these levels is prohibitively expensive. Depending on how many services are donated, the show runs from $700 to $950 to produce. Putting this show on is a wash for the organisation, rather than acting as a fundraiser.
I want the show to provide a great space for disabled queer folks who would otherwise not get to enjoy drag,3 while also ensuring the organisation putting it on can successfully raise funds for their bursaries. My hope is this pre-sale will allow me to contribute at least $500.
Thank you to my subscribers, my inner-circle supporters, my parents, my current patron, and my wonderful unicorn for all your financial support up to now! I couldn’t do this without the combined contributions you have made to my writing, art and practice.
For safety and security reasons, I am not naming the organization in this post as visibility without protection just makes orgs like this a target, especially given the political climate of bigotry and hatred towards trans folks right now. If you want to know more about the organisation, reach out via email or a DM and I will point you in their direction so you can learn more about their excellent work.
Do NOT get me started on how exploitative models of so-called “accessibility” are. The Disability Tax is a real pain to navigate. I dream of a world where properly edited captioning, ASL interpretation, and mobility devices are all socialised services provided by default and architecture accounts for the billions of people who use wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and other mobility devices.
A little reminder that we are still living in a pandemic and Covid-19 continues to be one of the leading causes of death in the United States, it is a novel virus and so we still don’t know what the long-term impacts are for folks who have had it, long-Covid is a thing and it means the number of disabled people in the world is growing, and please, please, please go get a booster shot and wear a mask when in enclosed public spaces.
