Reading time: about 3 minutes
Another season is coming to and end, and thus, another general update on All The Things happening in my Creative Life!
Issue 3 of From The QILT2BAG+:
I have loved every issue of this ‘zine since I started producing it in January, but something about the latest issue of From The QILT2BAG+ feels extra special. I think some of it is that I’ve gotten into a stride with the approach I’m taking, but mostly it’s because every time I’m working on a ‘zine, I feel good. I feel content and happy in the work. It combines so many things I love: Print design, community connection, collaboration, and sharing my work and the work of others.
The theme of issue three is Intersectionality, and it features writing by E.N. West, Jazzy Bryant, and Teigan Tulsie. There is also artwork by Oliver Twirl and the cover design is by Aaron Beaumont, AKA Steel Transplants. This is my second time collaborating with Aaron and it was such a delight.
You can get this issue and the previous two from my shop, or through any of the other collaborators.
Thangka Art:
You may have thought that the ‘zine would be my only big announcement this update, but oh boy, it is not.
Avalokiteshvara is complete.
I will write a longer reflection on the completion and publish that soon, but for now I am just resting with the unreal feeling that this piece I started in June 2023 is done.
Sacred Love/Sacred Lives:
Oh hey! ANOTHER EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT. One of the fabulous collaborators for the first issue of From The QILT2BAG+, Ris Wong, was super inspired by my Sacred Love/Sacred Lives series. So inspired that they created a design that is currently up on a BILLBOARD.
They sent me part of the design to embroider, which I have been working on for about a month and a half now and am almost done.
Collaborative project are so good for my heart and mind. There is something about making art with people, sharing ideas and inspiration, that cuts right through anxiety and stress. It taps into something about the deep creativity of being human and the need to belong.
Something else I may write more about later.
Speaking of writing AND collaboration…
The Coming Out Monologues:
I have been accepted into the latest cohort for a performance of The Coming Out Monologues with the Calgary Queer Arts Society! I genuinely did not expect to be selected for this and am honoured and thrilled that I was. My cohort has only met once at this point, but I am already feeling a connection to so many folks in the group. I am excited for the stories we will tell together and the community we are building along the way.
So that’s it. That’s my update for now. Hopefully more blog posts will follow as I seem to be able to write again a little more easily. I don’t feel totally out of the weeds yet, but I no longer feel quite so much like an anxiety werewolf.
K.
Congratulations!!
aw, so glad to hear you have had so many things come to fruition recently! a bountiful harvest of seeds planted long ago :)
