Reading time: about five minutes
You know how sometimes January brings really intense momentum? Yeah, 2024 is starting off like that for me. Have I already read nine books this year? Yes.1 Have I completed two more Sacred Love/Sacred Lives pieces? Yes. Have I finished another thangka!? Also YES! Have I been publishing to my blog super regularly and writing a lot of reflections and whatnot? You better believe I have!
I am on a roll and it is wild and I know it won’t last but heck am I ever going to go with it while it’s there.
And without further ado — my winter 2024 update for ya’ll!
Thangka projects:
I finished the Shakyamuni piece2 and it is now in the process of getting imaged so I can get prints and cards made! For all those who supported this project, that means I will have a delivery schedule for you by the end of the month. Watch yer inboxes.
For anyone who had been thinking about jumping onto this crowdfunding project, you still can! The piece is complete, but the commission target hasn’t been reached, so it’s still open for contributors until January 31st.
I continue to steadily work on Avalokiteshvara. Now that Shakyamuni is complete, I’ll be hyper-focusing on my wonderful thousand-armed friend, which means I’ll likely be spending less time with the other two personal thangka projects I started last year.3
Sacred Love/Sacred Lives:
Okay, so I technically finished the unicorn design in December, but I didn’t officially put a backing on it and sign it until this month. I did, however, finish a delightful Leather Daddy hat in January.
I have another piece of my own design in the works, and several other ideas I haven’t quite figured out yet, but no collaborations at the moment. I am, as ever, open for collabs. The pace of this project really varies but now that I’m not working to two commission deadlines, I suspect I’ll be spending more time embroidering.
If you are an artist who fancies sharing their work for a piece, you can get in touch with me in the comments or by sending an email to hello ‘at’ kschatch ‘dot’ com. You can learn more about the project on my website.
Writing!:
Very exciting news I finally get to tell ya’ll about: ‘ZINE DROP IN MY SHOP!
In November 2023 I decided to take my Land Acknowledgement As A Practice piece and format it into a ‘zine, alongside some original fiction and a few other goodies. I had oodles of fun designing this and finished it faster than I’d thought I would. The printing house I used for my Manjushri prints gave me a 25% discount to apply to anything I ordered from them in the next thirty days. So I did it! I printed the ‘zine!
Up until now only four very special humans have read the finished project,4 but with this blog post I am happy to announce that the ‘zine is in my webshop and you can totes buy a copy for yourself! Or several copies at a special discount!
NOTE: For those of you who supported the Shakyamuni commission, this is one of the ‘zines you can opt to receive. You can also wait until March if you would like to get a copy of the collaborative community ‘zine I’m producing with several other folks. I’ll be in touch with ya’ll about this when I share the printing and delivery schedule.
As usual, I have a few other things in process because that’s how I roll but this covers the major stuff for now. I don’t know how much longer I’ll have this creativity streak, but heck is it a fun wave to ride.
Thank you for all your support! Deepest gratitude and appreciation to each and every one of you for reading my blog and buying my art and throwing monies my way so I can support other creative folks and produce cool ‘zines and gosh knows what else this year!
K.
And they’re ALL really good, which does not bode well for keeping my recommendation post short next year. :P
Two and a half weeks before the deadline I made for myself!
I have only shared briefly about my work on Princess Mandarava, and the other project is still very early days, but I do plan to give some sneak peeks to my inner-circle folks soon.
Thank you to my gorgeous wife, who said that the ‘zine format really elevated the piece, to Elnora for hyping up ‘zine production, to Lauren for editing the piece when I wrote it for my blog, and to Chris La Tray for the excellent writing classes that inspired the short fiction.
Holy moly lookit you go!!! Congrats on taking advantage of that beginning of year energy and creating all over the place! 💖
